Clear, shadowy tunes from tape, only for a few beats. Then the guitarists throw in some dark chords, deep drum hits set in, shouts are heard from the audience when the band’s vocalist joins the instrumentalists. Berlin was the third stop of the European tour. The show started with significant sound problems, which were audible for the audience but also transmitted into the musicians’ earpieces. They flinched, and their anger was controlled but obvious while it took time to fix the complications. Only after a few songs did the mood normalize, allowing the music to spread its vigorous strength. Sadly, everybody still seemed to hold back, as if the motto of the evening was to withhold and to keep reserved. Singer Kyo was less expressive than usual, the guitarists Kaoru and Die stayed mostly at their individual sides, and drummer Shinya hid behind his big drum set even more than usually. Only bassist Toshiya made a real and heartfelt effort to engage with the audience.
